Sebi starts issuing show cause notices to suspected shell companies
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has started issuing showcause notices to 331 listed firms, suspected to have acted as shell companies for those with illicit funds, while action has also started against more than 100 unlisted entities that could have traded in stocks with black money, people aware of the development said. While market regulator’s decision on trading restrictions has been reversed in case of some suspected shell companies after they approached the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT), it has been permitted to go ahead with its probe against them and others who could have violated securities laws.
18% GST on food take away from non-AC area at AC restaurant
A uniform GST rate of 18% will be charged on takeaways as well as food served from a non-AC area of a hotel or restaurant if any of its parts has a facility of air conditioning, the government has said. The new Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, which was rolled out from July 1, provides for levy of 12% on food bill in non-AC restaurants. The tax rate for AC restaurants and those with a liquor licence will be 18% while 5-star hotels will charge 28% GST.
Snapdeal, IndiaMart issued notice for selling wildlife products on their platforms
The Madhya Pradesh Tiger Strike Force has served notice to e-commerce firms Snapdeal, IndiaMart, Wish and Buy and Craft Comparison for allegedly selling wildlife products on their portals. The notices were served to the e-commerce companies last week after their names surfaced during an investigation of the seizure of wildlife related items in Indore, a state public relations department official has said. “MP Tiger Strike Force has served notices to Snapdeal, India Mart, Wish and Buy and Craft Comparison for selling wildlife related items on their websites. The companies were told to remove all such content and to submit a clarification as to why an action should not be initiated against them,” the official said. She said the force had confiscated items ‘hattha-Jodi’ and ‘siyar-singhi’ (used in black magic) made out of wild animals’ limbs from the premises of a company called, Shubh Bhakti in Indore’s Vijay Nagar in June this year.
Vande Mataram debate: Uddhav Thackeray demands law for National Song
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday demanded a law regarding National Song Vande Mataram. “Law should be made regarding ‘Vande Mataram’, instead of doing politics over it,” Uddhav Thackeray was quoted as saying by ANI. “Can’t call those who don’t say ‘Vande Mataram’ anti-national, will BJP remove those ministers from the party who say so?” he added. Recitation of the Vande-Mataram has been made an issue of debate in Maharashtra ever since BJP chief whip in the State Assembly, Raj Purohit, demanded a law over it.
Gorakhpur deaths: CM warns of exemplary punishment
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said today that exemplary action would be taken against those found responsible for the scores of deaths since last week at a state government run hospital here.
Meanwhile, the Union government today announced the setting up of a regional medical center at a cost of Rs 85 crore in Gorakhpur for research into children’s diseases. “We have formed a high-powered committee under the state chief secretary to probe the reason for the deaths of children in the BRD Medical College and the supply of oxygen. Stringent action will be taken against the guilty, whether in Gorakhpur or elsewhere,” Adityanath said.

Train services disrupted due to heavy rains in north Bengal
North Bengal bound trains that originated from Sealdah and Howrah were terminated at various stations as heavy rains in sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal led to a deluge. Due to flood situation in Northeast Frontier Railway jurisdiction, north Bengal bound trains originating from Sealdah and Howrah that were delaying en route had to be controlled, a statement issued by Eastern Railway said.
