Apple’s new phone to be called ‘iPhone X’, according to code leaks

Apple Inc’s most important new phone for years will be called the iPhone X, according to a leak of the company’s latest mobile operating system on Saturday. Strings of software code inside of the leaked operating system, first detailed by Apple news website 9to5Mac, show the expected three new phones will be called the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are successors to the current iPhone models, while the iPhone X is the premium version with an all-new design, crisper OLED screen, improved cameras, and a 3-D facial recognition scanner for unlocking the device.

  Three IPOs to hit market this week to raise Rs6,600 crore

Three companies—Matrimony.com, Capacit’e Infraprojects and ICICI Lombard—will launch their initial share sale offers this week to raise about Rs6,600 crore. The initial public offer (IPO) of Matrimony.com, which runs online match-making portals, will be open from 11-13 September. The IPO comprises fresh issue aggregating up to Rs130 crore and an offer for sale of up to 37.67 lakh equity shares. Matrimony.com, which runs online match-making business under BharatMatrimony brand, among others, is expected to raise over Rs500 crore.

Sebi advisory panel to discuss trading hours extension

An advisory committee of market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is likely to discuss a proposal for extending stock market trading hours, even as several brokers feel any such move would increase cost and logistics burden for them. The stock market in India currently opens at 9 am and closes at 3.30 pm, but there is a view—including among stock exchanges—that the trade hours could be extended till up to 7.30 pm to better align domestic trading with global markets.

Bakshi-McDonald’s row: Board may meet this week to take call on 169 stores

The role of the administrator of Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL) is set to gain precedence in the battle between estranged partners Vikram Bakshi and McDonald’s India Ltd (MIPL). While the two fight it out and the matter IS slated for next hearing on September 21, Justice G S Singhvi, who is the administrator on the board of CPRL, will now decide on whether the 169 stores in the north and east of India can remain open till the time the matter is settled in courts. For this, a board meet is likely to be called this week, persons in the know said.

Jio effect: Airtel in talks with handset firms for Rs 2,500 4G smartphone

India’s largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel in talks with multiple handset makers to bring a 4G smartphone for a price as low as Rs 2,500-2,700 to take on Reliance Jio. While Mukesh Ambani-led Jio has announced plans to offer Internet-enabled feature phone for a refundable deposit of Rs 1,500, Airtel is placing its bet on a full-fledged smartphone as it believes people would be ready to shell out a little more to get a loaded handset.

Semi-high speed corridor: Nagpur-Hyderabad train travel to take 3 hours 

A rail journey between Maharashtra’s winter capital Nagpur and the city of pearls, Hyderabad, may take a mere three hours, down from the nine that most trains take now, if a plan is put into action, a senior official said. The railways has drawn a blueprint for a semi-high speed corridor linking the two commercial hubs, the official added. “The ministry has initiated a joint feasibility and implementation study with Russian Railways to chalk out details after which it will be sent to the Railway Board for approval,” the senior ministry official said.

Railways Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train to cost Rs 1.1 lakh-crore; PM Modi, Japan PM Abe to lay foundation stone

Apart from laying the foundation stone for Railways Mumbai-Ahmedabad’s Rs 1.1 lakh-crore bullet train project, India Japan will sign 10 MoUs when Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visits Gujarat along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week. Abe will be the second head of state after Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Gujarat for bilateral talks with India. Moreover, apart from this, the two prime ministers will also launch various projects comprising of Rs 3,000-crore Suzuki car manufacturing plant at Hansalpur, which is about 170 km from Ahmedabad.

 10 more airports to end stamping of hand baggage tags: CISF DG

Ten more airports in the country, including Pune and Ranchi, will soon do away with the practise of stamping domestic passengers’ hand baggage tags, a new air travel regime that began at civil airports in April this year.
